On June 1st, 2026, a major update to Reftown will be released. There are numerous changes. In general, the things you are familiar with will still be exactly where they were before. There are a few functional changes. WHAT HAS CHANGED?
DETAILS OF THE CHANGES Graphic Theme Overhauled Throughout the site, the color scheme has shifted from a red/blue/gray to be red/black/dark grey with the colors giving better visual separation to items on a page without being a bright. This will be instantly noticeable. Content Formatting to Smaller Screens/Windows Most of the major tables through out Reftown now auto-adapt to the width of your screen/window in a way that largely eliminates the need to scroll left/right to see everything. When a row of information is too wide to fit, the columns on the right are now moved into a secondary row just below the main row, but will be hidden. When this has been done, you will see a Similarly, the major search forms have been redesigned to auto-fit to the width of your screen. If you have a wider screen/window, they'll appear almost the same. If you have a medium or smaller screen/window, they may break into 2 or more lines where the items previously were on the same line. If you're on a mobile devices, they will reformat into a vertical list of options, grouped into categories that will initially appear closed if nothing in that section is initially selected. You'll also see changes to the many other pages to auto adapt to smaller and narrow windows. Such pages include your profile page, Table Formatting Many tables where an item's contents occupied multiple lines within a table now have a separation between items to make them more visually distinct. This primarily applies to games and the various directories, The officials and payor/location/team directories have the same data rearranged just a bit. Previously, there were several small items grouped together in single columns of the main table. Now, some of those pieces of information have been given their own columns. The search forms and "Quick Links" formats have been better unified. Before, they were done 3-4 different ways with slightly but noticeably different formats. Now, they all use the same structure and look and feel the same....the "Search Form Open" button itself is now a smaller light blue button at the top right of a table instead of the blue bar that stretched across the screen. It's color now matches the "Search" button with the form itself. All the major search forms now have two "Search" buttons at the top, in the same locations and another at the bottom. Also, a button that has been present on the games pages is now on several others.... Admin Editor Screen Layout Improvements On all the main editing screens, the formats have been subtly changed so that they better fit on a narrower window. In addition. the "Update" button along with the "Close" buttons will be fixed to the bottom edge of the window. Now, you no longer have to scroll to the bottom to find the buttons. Now, when you only need to enter/update information in the top of the screen, you can more easily find the Update button. Game Management Dashboard. This dashboard was updated to hide all rows with no relevant info. For example, if there are no declined assignments, the declined assignments row will be hidden. From the search form, there is an option to have the entire report shown. Game Status Options. Until now, you had 3 options on games: Normal, Canceled, or Postponed. There was an option for "Postponed" that allowed you, for finance purposes, to treat them either as Normal (Bill Payors & Pay Officials) or Canceled (No Billing or Paying). Now, you have several options:
The new options shown in green above all essentially work the same. All of them free up the official to be assigned to another game. Games marked with such a status remain eligible for invoicing the payors and remain eligible to pay the officials. The difference is just the word that appears on the game. They give you different options for labeling the game so you can more easily note what occurred without having to manually enter notes in the comments boxes. The Postponed button Officials Custom Fields Many years ago, the initial version of the custom fields were limited and there were only had 5 spots for checkboxes, 5 spots for numbers, 5 spots for dates, and 5 spots for general text. After a while, it became obvious that some organizations needed more than that and extended the number with the original feature was not feasible. At that point, we added a new custom fields function that allowed for an unlimited number of custom fields of any of those types along with the ability to group them into categories. That new function matched all of the old custom field functions except for the ability to use them as part of your registration forms. The "new" version of this function now supports being used on registration forms. Any organization that is newer to RefTown (since early 2024) has only had access to the new fields. So, there is no change. As of this update, the data in the old old custom fields will be migrated to the new version of the feature and access to add/edit/delete the old fields will be disabled. Any data will remain in those fields for a few months for reference in case something is missed.
